U.S. Senator Tom Carper has worked for more than thirty years to bring back the “true meaning of Christmas” through his very own toy story.

He and his wife made their annual holiday trip to Milford Sunday afternoon to celebrate the season and collect toys for the Toys for Tots program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

“We’ve been hosting the reception for over 30 years. It’s a source of great joy and we find it’s a great source of joy for the people that come and bring toys,” he said.

With the end of summer still a couple months away, the First State Community Action Agency is giving some households a way to beat the heat.

Sussex and Kent county residents can qualify for a free window air conditioner through the group’s Summer Cooling Assistance Program. Applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at 308 N. Railroad Ave. in Georgetown and on July 21 at 655 S. Bay Road, Suite 4J, in Dover. Applications also will be taken by appointment.
