LCV ACTION FUND ENDORSES SENATOR TOM CARPER FOR RE-ELECTION

Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Senator Tom Carper for re-election to the U.S. Senate from Delaware.

“Senator Carper is a true environmental champion, and we are delighted to endorse him as he runs for reelection,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, he works tirelessly to protect our air and water and has led the fight against Trump’s anti-environmental agenda and nominees, especially former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.”

“I am proud to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, an organization that shares the belief that we must do everything we can to fight back against the harmful environmental policies of this administration,” said Senator Tom Carper. “From clean air to clean water, I am fighting to make sure we enact and protect policies based on science – not opinion – and remove misguided leaders like Scott Pruitt from ruining the progress we’ve made toward a safer environment. Our work is only beginning, and we must continue to fight so we have a healthy environment for generations to come.”

As the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Carper has been a leading voice for clean air and water and for addressing climate change. He has championed the life-saving benefits of the Clean Air Act and led the charge against congressional and administrative attacks on our bedrock environment laws and recent climate progress, from the Clean Power Plan to the Paris Climate Accords. From day one, he put a spotlight on Scott Pruitt and elevated just how unfit he was to be EPA administrator. He worked tirelessly to defeat Michael Dourson, a chemical industry shill picked to run EPA’s chemical office, and to stop Kathleen Hartnett White from becoming head of the Council on Environmental Quality.

Carper is a major advocate for offshore wind and worked to pass an investment tax credit that would include offshore wind projects and also the Incentivizing Offshore Wind Power Act. As a result, Delaware is one of the first states to hold auctions for offshore wind leases. In an effort to improve air quality, Carper co-authored the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act which was signed into law in 2011. The law promoted efforts to clean up diesel engines. Carper is also a strong proponent of the EPA’s Cross-State Air Pollution Rule as Delaware is greatly affected by the emissions from Midwestern states. Senator Carper earned a 95% score on LCV’s 2017 National Environmental Scorecard.
